Become a Conservative Councillor

Do you love where you live? Are you passionate about a particular local matter like schooling, road safety or social care?

While our next elections, Essex County Council, aren’t until 2025, we’re already on the lookout for local residents across the constituency who are interested in becoming a councillor.

Councillors are elected to represent and be the voice of residents and communities on a wide range of topics related to the work of the Council. The role is perfectly suited to someone who is active, hardworking and passionate about improving the area they live in. Personal and professional qualifications and experience are also key assets to bring to the table. It is also worth noting that it is a paid role, with the current basic annual allowance for district councillors being approx. £5,506.88, while for a County Councillor it is £13,730 with further sums for those taking on additional responsibilities.

Being a Conservative councillor can be extremely rewarding but as we like to be up front about things it does also require a time commitment and a balancing of work in the delivery of the role. However, the reward of playing your part in enhancing where we live and being involved in the wider Conservative ‘levelling up’ agenda makes it an exciting place to be!

More information about becoming a councillor can be found on the Conservative Councillor’s Association https://www.conservativecouncillors.com/become-councillor and downloading the Local Government Association's Councillor Guide under this article.

If you like what you see and are interested in talking with one of our team about becoming a councillor, simply fill in the 'Stay in touch' details, making sure to tick the ‘Volunteer for us’ and ‘potentially standing to be a local Conservative councillor’ box.

One of our team members in your community will contact you with more information on how you can help us make a difference!
