Councillors serve their constituents as volunteers, giving up their spare time to public service. Most continue to be employed at the same time, while others have already enjoyed their careers and now contribute to where they live. Councillors are elected every four years and have wide-ranging duties, from taking up constituent enquiries and meeting with businesses and charities, to voting in full council on million-pound budgets.
North West Essex Conservative Councillors work together for residents across all three councils in the constituency: Uttlesford District; Chelmsford City; and Essex County. The Labour Govenment has postponed the scheduled mayoral election for Greater Essex until 2028. New Unitary authorities will take the place of Essex County Council and the district councils from 2028. The Government is proposing to split Essex into 5 Unitary Authorities, but this is being challenged by the Conservative Group on Essex County Council who beleive that 3 Unitaries is a more viable option.
